PONTLLANFRAITH YOUNG ENTERPRISE
The Young Enterprise group had their first roadshow event on Thursday March 3rd. They spent the afternoon teaching Year 6 pupils about Forces and Gravity. It was a successful day and the reaction from the pupils was very enthusiastic. The school would like us to return and we are plannning more roadshows in different locations. We are also working hard on producing our Company Report and preparing for the Young Enterprise Regional Final on March 23rd.

Year 9 Assembly
A special assembly was held by Year 9 last Friday 26th February. Members of the Rotary Club came along to present our winning public speaking team with their certificates and also to congratulate Year 9 as a whole for raising £500 for Shelter Box, which provides necessities for people who suffer from natural disasters.

Daniel Westwood, Owain Cooper and Jack Mainwaring, the winning public speakers.

Mrs Terry, Head of Year 9, receives a certificate of recognition for our fund raising efforts.
London Trip
31 pupils along with Mr Blunt, Mrs Rookes, Mrs Banfield and Mr Smidman went to London for the first three days of half term. We revelled in two top musical productions, Oliver and Wicked, were terrified in the London Dungeons, and were exhilarated by the views from the London Eye, among many attractions. A great time was had by all.

This is some of the party members on the London Eye.
“24 Game Challenge 2009”
Congratulations to the sixty pupils who took part in the 24 game challenge before Christmas. Competition was fierce between all pupils in years 7-11. Year 7 and 8 pupils were particularly strong easily beating much older competitors. The photograph shows the pupils who reached the semi-final stages. Owain Steer (Year 8) and Luke Rosser Jones (Year 7) did extremely well narrowly losing to the finalists Shane Higginson (Year 8) and Lauren Cooper (Year 11). Lauren went on to win the final for the second year running. As Lauren will be leaving Pontllanfraith this year, we will be looking for someone to take her place. The boys seem to be dominating the game at the moment so... “Come on girls – Get Practising!”
